Does Mercedes-Benz Have A Hybrid?
Gasoline has been an integral part of the automotive experience for well over 125 years and likely still has some time left as the industry’s primary power source. But we’ve known for a while now that it’s not the best way to get around. Internal combustion engines are loud and responsible for a large percentage of greenhouse gas emissions. And, while they can offer exhilarating performance, they’re still very inefficient, even in their best implementations, and some believe we may be reaching the limit of what’s practical and feasible for consumer cars. But with the recent advancements in the production and popularity of hybrids and EVs, we now know what the future holds. And it’s electric.
As one of the foremost marques in luxury performance, Mercedes-Benz is fully embracing the automobile’s electric destiny and is committed to designing and manufacturing cars and SUVs that help both preserve the future for the next generation and deliver the same premium and invigorating experience we’ve come to expect from the brand.
Which Mercedes-Benz Models are Hybrids?
Mercedes-Benz currently produces two kinds of hybrid vehicles:
- Electric Boost (MHEV): An MHEV, or mild-hybrid electric vehicle, incorporates an electric motor that acts as a generator to harvest energy typically dissipated during deceleration. This action is called regenerative braking. The energy is stored in a small battery and used to assist the engine during stop-starts, increasing fuel economy and providing smoother acceleration. Mercedes-Benz calls this technology electric Boost. And it’s available on the following models: C-Class, CLS 450, E 450 S500, and S 580.
- Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV): Plug-in Hybrid functions like a regular hybrid but with a larger electric powertrain that can operate independently of the gas engine. The battery’s greater capacity needs to be fully charged from an external power source and allows for short drives using just the electric motor. Mercedes-Benz PHEV models include the E 350e and GLC 350e, with electric-only ranges of 21 and 22 miles, respectively.
Does Mercedes-Benz Offer an All-Electric Vehicle?
Mercedes-Benz is currently developing the next generation of Mercedes-Benz All-Electric luxury automobiles. These models will boast cutting-edge technology and style and exciting performance, with models reaching the United States beginning in 2022. Mercedes-Benz All-Electric models include the EQA, EQB, EQC, EQE, and EQS.
